APC, ADC, NNPP test strength as elections hold in Kano, FCT, Rivers
The All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are ready to test their popularity today as voters go out to vote for their preferred candidates in Kano, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Rivers State.
The APC and the NNPP will slug it out in Kano to determine who occupies the two seats in Kano state’s House of Assembly, which became vacant after the sudden passing of Sarki Aliyu and Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo.
In Rivers, the APC will battle the Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The election would determine who occupies the vacant positions in the Rivers State House of Assembly. The poll is scheduled to be held in Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II in Ahoada East and Khana local government areas of the state.
The elections seem a walkover for the APC, especially with the absence of key opposition political parties such as the PDP and the ADC. In fact, it will be a miracle for any other party to win any of the constituencies, especially amid the prevailing political circumstances in Rivers.
In FCT, the electorate will go to the polls to elect another set of local government officials. In all, residents of the city will be electing 68 officials made up of 62 councillors and six Chairmen.
