LASEMA commences recovery operations at site of fallen 40ft container in Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully secured the scene and commenced recovery operations at the site of a fallen 40ft container at Anthony, inward Obanikoro, Lagos.

According to a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs (LASEMA),

Afolabi Olawale, the agency received and activated its Eagle Base Light Response Team (LRT) on July 2nd, 2026, following reports of a fallen container obstructing the carriageway. On arrival, responders confirmed that a fully loaded 40ft container with unidentified items had fallen across the road.

Preliminary investigation by the LR, according to LASEMA, indicated that the truck driver’s reckless driving was the immediate cause of the incident.

“LASEMA confirmed that there was no loss of life and no injury sustained as a result of the incident,” the agency said.

The agency stated further that upon arrival, LASEMA operatives, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force, immediately implemented traffic management and crowd control measures to ease vehicular buildup in the axis. The affected section was cordoned off to ensure public safety while recovery arrangements were activated.

“A private crane has been mobilised to the site to commence swift recovery and clearance of the container. Recovery operations are currently ongoing, and the corridor will be fully reopened to traffic upon completion.”

LASEMA, therefore, urged all truck and articulated vehicle operators to adhere strictly to safe driving practices, speed limits, and vehicle roadworthiness standards to prevent avoidable incidents on Lagos roads.
