The Lagos State Government, through its emergency and traffic management agencies, successfully managed a road traffic accident at New Garage, along Ikorodu Road, inward Maryland.
According to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred at approximately 06:27 P.M, and involved a 20-foot containerised truck with registration number SUL 460 ZY.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was struck by a flat-body truck whose driver engaged in reckless driving and fled the scene prior to the arrival of responders.
Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the impact caused the containerised truck, which had three occupants on board, to overturn and obstruct about 50% of the carriageway, adding that “In the process, the vehicle also struck a high-tension electricity pole, bringing down power lines across the road and creating a secondary hazard to motorists, pedestrians, and emergency workers.
“Two occupants of the containerised truck sustained injuries. The driver’s assistant sustained serious injuries to the head and chest, along with multiple bruises, while the driver sustained injuries to the mouth and shoulder.”
Oke-Osanyintolu added that both victims received immediate first aid and advanced medical attention at the scene from LASEMA Paramedics and LASAMBUS personnel before being stabilised for further care. No fatalities were recorded.”
“In line with the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration’s zero-tolerance for emergency response delays, a swift and coordinated multi-agency operation was activated.
“Responders on ground included the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Lagos State Ambulance Service LASAMBUS, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA, and Ikeja Electric.
“LASEMA and LASAMBUS provided prompt medical care and evacuation support to the injured. Ikeja Electric swiftly isolated power supply to the affected section, neutralising the electrical hazard posed by the fallen pole and live wires. LASTMA officers were deployed to manage traffic, secure the corridor, and minimise gridlock for motorists. A private tow truck was also engaged to evacuate the overturned truck and clear the obstruction from the roadway.
“Recovery and clearance operations are currently ongoing to fully restore vehicular movement along the affected section,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
